Xiaomi‘s latest offering in India is the budget smartphone Redmi 5 and as expected, it has been selling like hot cakes. Some of the highlights of the phone include its full view screen and powerful hardware. The Redmi 5 runs on a highly customized MIUI 9.2 skin that is based on Android Nougat. Redmi 5 software is packed with features and you probably haven’t explored most of them yet. So, if you have already bought one, we will show you all the hidden features, tips and tricks of Redmi 5.
1. MOVE MULTIPLE APPS
Would you like to keep your Redmi 5 home screen organized? Well, you can do it much more easily with this hidden MIUI feature that allows you to select and move multiple apps in one go. All you have to do is long press the recent apps button >> select multiple apps >> now tap and drag any selected app and all the selected apps will be moved . Now place them in any folder or on the next screen, the decision is yours.
2. LAUNCH THE CAMERA WITH GESTURE OR BUTTON
If you love capturing impromptu images on the go, then you already know that launching the camera on time is your biggest challenge. Xiaomi adds an option to create a shortcut to the start of the camera. All you have to do is go to Settings >> Buttons and gestures shortcut >> launch camera . Now select an option from the predefined combination by tapping on it.
3. BLOCK SPAM CALLS
Tired of answering unwanted calls from credit cards and insurance companies? Or maybe your ex is bothering you with late night calls. The easiest solution for this problem is to add the number to the blacklist. To do it all you have to go to the phone app >> tap and hold the corresponding number until a menu appears at the bottom >> Now select the lock option and then confirm it . Viola, now you will not receive news from that blocked number.
4. REMOVE THE NUMBER FROM THE BLACKLIST
Did you somehow by mistake add wrong number to blacklist? Don’t worry, there is an easy way to unblock that number. All you have to do is make the phone app and tap on the hamburger menu option and select the blacklist option. Locate the blocked number by toggling between SMS and Calls to remove it from there.
5. AUTOMATIC CALL RECORDING
Automatic call recording has been there in the MIUI skin for some time now, but not many users know about it. Instead of downloading auto call recorder app from Play Store, you can activate this hidden feature of MIUI to record all incoming and outgoing calls. All you have to do is open dialer app >> hamburger menu >> select settings >> call recording >> activate Record calls automatically .
6. ACTIVATE RAM STATUS
If you have been using the Xiaomi phone, it must be usual to see the status of available RAM every time you press the recent apps button. In recent times, Xiaomi has disabled this feature by default and now you have to activate it manually. To do so, you have to press and hold the recent apps button >> then go to settings >> more >> turn on the Show memory status option.
7. FLASHES WHEN IT RINGS
This is a useful hidden feature for those who live in places where power outages are frequent. Flash light notifications will allow you to locate your phone when it rings in the dark. To turn it on, once again open dialer app >> settings >> incoming call settings >> turn on flash when ringing .
8. FASTBALL
Do you have a small palm and find it difficult to use the large Redmi 5 5.7 with one hand? Activate the buried fastball feature within the settings and that will make it easy to operate with one hand. You can turn it on simply by going to Settings -> Additional Settings -> Speedball, and enable the toggle next to “Turn on Speedball” .
9. FACE UNLOCK
Face Unlock has been around on Android for some time now, but before the iPhone X introduced Face ID no one paid any attention to it. Nonetheless, it is a useful feature and Xiaomi has also introduced it on its Redmi 5, Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro.
To turn on Face unlock, go to Settings -> Lock screen & password > Add face data. Now that your face is registered, you can use it to unlock your phone.
10. CHANGE NAVIGATION BUTTONS
One thing that bothers me the most when switching from one brand to another is the order of the navigation buttons. Some phones come with a back button on the right, while others have one on the left.
Xiaomi found a way to give you what you want. It allows you to change recent app and back button on your phones. To change the navigation buttons on the Redmi 5 you have to go to ‘Settings’ >> Additional settings >> Button and gesture control >> Mirror buttons .
